Date : 11 Jan
today is first day of our San Jose trip, we are all excited about it. i woke up around 630am.
chamal and ravan, breakfast time, me ? behind the camera. lol
after that we head out to Cisco office @ San Jose.
guess what, everyone gets a flip video recorder for the whole week, so that we can record what ever we want during our trip. ^^
then we were separated in 2 groups, we went to Cable lab. The name sounds like lab that R&D serial cable, ethernet cable.... No !! its actually a lab where they running cable tv
all the tv channel received, will be converted, add in and remove some header, compress if necessary, pack it with multicast header, and then send it out again to IP network.
this is where they build a test bed for the cable tv, they got over 7000 modem here and the lab is really really big.
sunny day huh? actually both of they are shacking of cold wind, and they left their jacket in the room. luckily i got mine..haha
Next, we go to EBC, to see some great innovations. In here, you can see some of Cisco latest products, now Cisco is in CCTV and also media player industry too. I noticed one great direction they heading is Green Environment, now you can power up a router just with a bicycle generator ! (Bob demo how its work).
Me with a BIG cisco ip phone
we get to test Cisco Telepresence, everything in the room is specially design for a smooth clear conference, including the lighting. OMG
Its dinner time !! =P at Applebees
After the dinner, all of us have a chat session, everyone said its a great day, and can't wait for tomorrow.
Tomorrow we will be doing job shadowing and visit Stanford University. =)
Personal conclusion : had a great day, great start, although still struggling with jet lag, but i am sure tomorrow will be better. I learned a lot today, and its amazing to see how technologies involve all these years. It's great Cisco, a large organization start paying attention to green environment and how their new products can contribute to a better cleaner world, i think thats what human should do, balance technologies and nature !
